How it began
The thoughts of creating a multilateral organization to deal with the common interests of European pump manu-facturers date as far back as to the late 1950s when Association Française des Constructeurs des Pompes (at that time called S.C.P.) together with Fachgemein-schaft Pumpen within the German V.D.M.A. set up a mutual technical commission. This was soon joined by the corresponding organizations of Belgium and Italy and in March 1959 the European Working Group of Pump Manufacturers was instituted. The year after can be said to be the year Europump, as we know it today, was born. At a plenary session held in Paris in November 1960 the European Committee of Pump Manufacturers was formed, with the name Europump being introduced soon afterwards. As Charter President was elected R. Proton de la Chapelle, at the time also president of the above mentioned French organization.
